Young Widows Split Series - Complete

Here's all 4 split 7"s from the Young Widows split series put out on Temporary Residence Limited. I had previously posted just the first 2 parts, but here's all four together for ya. B-Side contributions are from Bonnie "Prince" Billy, Melt-Banana, Pelican and My Disco. These things are only $4/piece so why don'tcha buy 'em? You should.

Genghis Tron - Triple Black Diamond

This is a LTD Edition tour EP (that I got through the Crucial Blast webstore). I'm unsure how many were printed, but about only 100 were even sold through the webstore, so I imagine maybe 1000 were in print, tops. This follows their release of Dead Mountain Mouth, which is the equivalent of the heaviest stuff on Board Up The House (the more "electronic" stuff can be compared to their first EP, Cloak Of Love). Anyway... this lil' EP only came in a cardboard sleeve (DVD sized) inside a plastic resealable bag. It's got a couple live tracks, a handful of remixes and one untitled demo. The demo is bad-ass too, but maybe only elements of it ever appeared on BUTH, if that. Track 5 (The Folding Road) is pure hypnotic, drone-y bliss.

Enjoy!

Keepintime: Remixes

This is the bonus CD that accompanied the Keepintime: A Live Recording DVD. A wicked project envisioned by B+ (photographer, film-maker). His obsession with "the break" in hip-hop records drove him to seek out some legendary jazz and soul drummers (Roy Porter, Earl Plamer, Paul Humphrey, James Gadson) and pair them with some of todays best hip-hop DJ's/producers (Babu, Cut Chemist, Nu-Mark, Madlib, Shortkut). The DVD's in 2 parts: the first is the orignal film B+ shot in 2000 followed by the second part, the concert performed four years later in 2004. Again, this is just the Remix CD though. A handful of amazing DJ's including DJ Shadow and King Britt remix excerprts from the film/concert. Awesomeness. I'm not sure why this can't be found for sale anywhere online anymore. It's been repackaged from the tall DVD box to a CD size box even, but neither can be found for sale unless they're used. Mochilla sells their "companion" DVD/CD Brasilintime on their website, so what's up with this? Legal reasons? While you're at the Mochilla site though, check out Suite For Ma Dukes and DJ Dusk's Rootdown Soundclash.

Enjoy!

The Roots - The Roots Come Alive

This is disc 2 of the LTD Edition of The Roots Come Alive. As if disc 1 didn't already prove to the world why The Roots can proclaim themselves as the "legendary" Roots crew, we get this bonus treat of a couple new tracks and a couple more live tracks to solidify that claim. Plus, it's cool to have that little more of a complete Roots discography... they do number every song chronologically(?) from album to album. Without this disc, you won't own tracks 81-86. To buy The Roots Come Alive standard edition, go here.
Enjoy!
And here's the 2 videos from the "enhanced" content on that disc...

DJ Shadow - Pushin' Buttons Live

This is the 2nd disc from a LTD Edition of Private Press. It's just a 12+ minute live mix of the track "Pushin' Buttons" featuring Cut Chemist and DJ Nu-Mark (Jurassic 5, Ozomatli). And when I say "just", I mean it's "just" awesome... obviously. To buy Private Press and everything else DJ Shadow related, check this out.

Meat Beat Manifesto - Subliminal Sandwich

This album blew my mind back in the early-mid 90's. When "electronica" was blowing up with the likes of The Prodigy, Chemical Brothers and Underworld, and a host of other artists coming up with them. From the likes of Orbital, The Orb, Moby, 808 State, Fluke, Roni Size and Meat Beat Manifesto. MBM is Jack Dangers. To be honest, I've never touched the albums prior to this. I hear he used to do alot of dancefloor stuff, which was never for me anyway. This album however is the beginning (from what I know) of MBM starting to mess with ambient and weird shit. Lots of samples, field recordings, etc. There's still some hefty beats here, but you're probably not gonna be driven to dance. This is mind-fuck material you keep in your headphones. It's a 2-disc set too. Lots of skull-fuckery.

Enjoy!

Meat Beat Manifesto - Subliminal Sandwich

EDIT: This is what Jack's been up to lately...

Nine Inch Nails - Still

This was exclusive to the nin.com webstore or as part of the And All That Could Have Been (Deluxe) live album. You can pretty much just find it on torrents now. And from the way Trent gives his stuff away these days, I don't imagine that phazes him much. It's a few "new" songs from The Fragile sessions as well as some "softer" versions of already softer NIN material. Quite mellow in comparsion with the ripping live set most would've just listened to beforehand. I think this was kind of the beginning of Trent starting to package things with exclusives in deluxe designs. Not long after this obviously (following With Teeth) we'd have albums given away for free, full multi-track sessions made available, a remix community and rediculously elaborate boxes for new projects. To buy And All That Could Have Been, click here.
Shit... guess this wasn't as "limited" as was originally stated. Wanna buy this? Go here.
Enjoy!

Soundgarden - SOMMS

This is the SOMMS (Satanoscillatemymetallicsonatas) EP. That's a big-ass palindrome! I'm not sure if this was ever issued on it's own. From the artwork I've found I guess maybe it was, however I think most people would be more aware of it coming packaged with a LTD Edition of Badmotorfinger. It's 3 covers (Sabbath, Stones, Devo), a new Cornell penned song and a live version of "Slaves & Bulldozers". This thing's been long out of print (OOP). So long that it was OOP even when I bought it in high school. Soundgarden was still a band and hadn't even released Down On The Upside yet. To buy Badmotorfinger, go here.

Enjoy!

Soundgarden - SOMMS

Replicants

This is an all-covers album performed by Ken Andrews and Greg Edwards (Failure), Paul D'Amour (ex-Tool) and Chris Pitman. Maynard James Keenan (Tool, A Perfect Circle) does guest vocals on one track. It's a surprisingly good album. I'd have to say that Ken and Greg must've had the most input over the sound, 'cause it's VERY Failure-like. And that's a good thing. They cover everyone including Bowie, Cars, Lennon, Pink Floyd, T. Rex and Neil Young.

Enjoy!

Replicants

Sloan - Recorded Live at a Sloan Party

This was a bonus disc in the US-only edition of One Chord To Another (later also issued in Japan apparently) put out by now defunct label The Enclave. The set is mostly cover songs and if I remember correctly, the story behind this whole deal is that it's a fake... the party that is. The songs were done in a studio and the party sounds were just dubbed in. That's not to say that Sloan weren't present at the party where the sounds come from but...
To buy One Chord To Another, click here. Normally I'd say check out MapleMusic.com, but the site's down, so too bad for them!

Ted Leo & The Pharmacists - Mo' Living

This is the LTD EP that came with initial shipments of Living With The Living. As far as I know, just more songs from the recording sessions. Best part though, the song Living With The Living from the EP, might be the most ball-out rocking song I've heard these guys do. Ted Leo and his band can play just about any style successfully, but on this one they just let their bad-ass punk selves loose and it's the best. The whole EP's great, but that song man... that song! To buy Living With The Living, click here.
Enjoy!

Mad Season - Live

This was a promo-only release with certain retailers when you purchased the Mad Season "Above" album. Mad Season were of course Layne Staley (Alice In Chains), Mike McCready (Pearl Jam), Barrett Martin (Screaming Trees) and John Baker Saunders. These are live cuts from a concert at the Moore Theatre in Seattle on April 29th, 1995. The full live show would eventually be released as a VHS. To purchase Above, click here.
Enjoy!

Deftones - My Own Summer (Shove It) & Be Quiet And Drive (Far Away) singles

These are the (first & second?) singles from Deftones' Around The Fur album. Both were 2-part collections where all 4 discs had to be purchased separately. Between all 4 though you get a good chunk of a live show at the Melkweg in Amersterdam on October 13th, 1997. I've excluded the singles themselves from each disc since they were just album versions anyway. The only exception is the "remix" of Be Quiet and Drive that's actually an acoustic version with Jonah Matranga from Far/Onelinedrawing singing back-up. The live cuts are most notable for showing Deftones in young fury-form, before they would morph into the more ambient and dense band that they are today. To buy Around The Fur, click here.
Enjoy!

Live At The Futureprimitive Soundsession - Vol. 1 & 2

These are two amazing live DJ sets. Total party music. Volume 1 is performed by Cut Chemist (Jurassic 5, Ozomatli) and Shortkut (Invisbl Skratch Piklz) on May 25th, 1997. Volume 2 is performed by DJ's Z-Trip and Radar (Bombshelter DJ's). Both sets are improvised live on 5 turntables. Volume 2 is by far the better set, but both are great if you just need some good party music on in a social setting. Or I suppose you could get down by yo' bad self!
Enjoy!

Moby - Little Idiot

This is the bous disc from the UK(?) Special Edition version of Animal Rights. It's all mellow, simple piano/keyboard-based type stuff. Complete contrast from the Animal Rights album itself which is mainly Moby trying to relive his punk youth again. All-in-all, not bad. Too bad the sequencing of the album is messed compared to the domestic version. The North American version of Animal Rights flows great start to finish. But all that has nothing to do with this disc. To buy the regular Animal Rights, go here.

Enjoy!

Moby - Little Idiot

Black Mountain - Future Sounds

This is the second disc of the Deluxe Edition of In The Future. Some (more) psychadelic rock for ya. To purchase In The Future, go here. I could've sworn that this was out of print, but looks like you can still get this from JagJaguwar mailorder.

Enjoy!

Black Mountain - Future Sounds

Pure - Extra Purestrial

This was the EP that Pure released after leaving/being dumped from their label. Recorded/produced by themselves at home studios and whatnot. In Canada at least, they had some pretty decent success with this thanks to the single "Lemonade". Songs from this would later turn up on the US re-issue of Generation Six Pack. This also has a pretty rad version of The Who's "Baba O'Riley".
Enjoy!

Pearl Jam - Dissident: Live In Atlanta

This is a 3 disc LTD version of the Dissident single from '94. The first disc came housed in a gatefold digipack that included the single and a handful of live tracks from a concert recorded at the Fox Theater in Atlanta on April 3rd, 1994. The remaining 2 discs had to be purchased separately and included the remaining tracks of the full concert. All 3 discs are contained here and only the Dissident single (song) is excluded. Note: for whatever reason, disc 3 had to be ripped with different software, so unfortunately it's got it's own folder in the bundle.
Enjoy!

Sebutones - 50/50 Where It Counts

Here's a seminal piece of Halifax/Canadian hip-hop. Defying any trends at all, Buck 65 and Sixtoo showcase their brand of hip-hop. Both have gone on to bigger and better things and completely different styles from this. But this serves as a solid foundation for what would come... no restrictions on creativity, great lyricism, very organic feel.

The Draft - Three 7"s

Here's three 7"s from The Draft (aka 3/4 of Hot Water Music). In order of appearance in the picture: "We'll Never Know / Hard To Be Around It", "Na Na Na / Devil In The Shade", and "Stop Wastin' My Time / Up All Night". The latter two have appeared in a digital bundle on iTunes but clearly, vinyl is the better way to go. To purchase them, check out http://www.noidearecords.com/
Enjoy!

Joel Plaskett - Three More 7"

Here's the Three More 7". Just what the title implies... 3 more songs to accompany the "Three" album. Joel Plaskett, along with Matt Mays, Classified, Jill Barber and a small handful of other Nova Scotians are keeping music alive and well for Canada. To purchase this, go here.

Enjoy!

Joel Plaskett - Three More 7"

Pearl Jam - Holiday 7" 1996

Here's the holiday 7" from 1996. Two songs. A horrible, yet funny, new song called Olympic Platinum and a live version of Smile.

Enjoy!

Pearl Jam - Holiday 7" 1996

Rise Against & Minus 7"-only tracks

Here's 2 tracks that are 7" exclusives. The Minus track is an acoustic version of their "Throwaway Angel" single and the Rise Against track is a live cover of Minor Threat's "Minor Threat". The acoustic Minus track is really haunting and eerie, almost better than the original. The Minor Threat cover is just pretty awesome. To purchase the Minus 7", go here.
Enjoy!

Leviathan & Wolves In The Throne Room extra LP-only tracks

Here's 2 songs that as far as I know are LP-only tracks from Massive Conspiracy Against All Life and Two Hunters, respectively. The Leviathan track is "Perverse Calculus" (TRACK 5) and the Wolves song is "To Reveal" (TRACK 5). Both are pretty ambient tracks, but the Wolves track is a nice finishing touch on the Two Hunters album that you wouldn't otherwise get unless you own the LP. To purchase Leviathan, go here. To purchase Wolves, go here.
Enjoy!

Pearl Jam - Holiday 2x7" 1995

Here's the double 7" from the '95 holidays that Pearl Jam sent out through their fan club. Best fan club ever! Seriously! For $10/year you were guaranteed at least two 7"s, Christmas cards, newsletters and first chance access to tickets to their concerts. The 4 tracks on this are all live and all covers featuring guests. Including the Finn brothers (Crowded House), Joey Ramone, Mark Arm and Steve Turner (Mudhoney), and Terry Presley (Elvis' cousin?).

Enjoy!

Pearl Jam - Holiday 2x7" 1995

Darkthrone - Forebyggende Krig 7"

This is a bad-ass "single" from Darkthrone off the Cult Is Alive album. The solo at the end rocks my ass every time! Solos? Darkthrone? Yup. The B-Side is pretty wicked too... "Bad Attitude". And old US punk band cover. To purchase, go here.

Enjoy!

Relapse Singles Series #71

This was a freebie that I got with some vinyl I ordered from the Relapse webstore. It's a LTD red 7" with all three bands listed on the picture there. Pig Destoyer gets 2 songs, Coldworker and Antigama get one each. I actually quite dig all the songs, but Pig Destoyers covers are the most rad to me.

Enjoy!

Relapse Singles Series #71

Mastodon - Live from the Relapse Contamination Festival 2003

This is Mastodon's performance from the Relapse Contamination Festival held in Philly on January 18th, 2003 @ the Trocadero Theater. This is, from what I understand, only available in the LP box set from Relapse. Live clips can be seen on the DVD that's still available as well. Totally worth checking out for the other bands present as well... Pig Destroyer, High On Fire, Cephalic Carnage, The End, Alabama Thunderpussy, Dillinger Escape Plan, etc, etc. Oh, and this complete Mastodon set is pretty bad-ass as well, but keep in mind it only has material up to and including Remission. To purchase the complete LP box (excluding Crack The Skye), look here.

Flaming Lips/Black Keys 7"

This is a split 7" that Warner Records put out in celebration of Record Store Day (and their 50th anniversary). I'm not sure how limited this was or anything, but it's got 2 pretty cool covers by 2 pretty cool bands. Flaming Lips (w/Stardeath And White Dwarfs) cover Madonna's "Borderline" and the Black Keys tackle Captain Beefheart's "Her Eyes Are A Blue Million Miles", which has been a part of their live sets for quite some time. If there's any left to be got, try shopping here.

Genghis Tron - Board Up The House Remixes - Vol. 1- 5

So, here they all are. Finally, all 5 complete volumes of Genghis Tron's Board Up The House remix series. For the most part I'd say this whole project was pretty successful. 5 labels recruiting at least 3 artists (or more) to remix whichever songs they choose from Board Up The House. Each LP has a distinct sound from the others due to such a broad variety of artists. It's cool that each LP came with "remixed" album artwork, colour-matched splatter vinyl and that all were pressed a limit of 1000 copies. An ambitious project that I was more than happy to shell out for. Young Widows are doing a mutli-series 7" thing soon too...

For links to where you can purchase these, check out http://www.myspace.com/genghistronremix
